SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The Sarasota County Public Hospital Board approved a $450 million plan today to build North Port’s first hospital on North Sumter Boulevard in North Port.
The 6-story, 100-bed hospital will be built on an undeveloped 32-acre parcel Sarasota Memorial Health Care System owns in the 4900 block of North Sumter Boulevard near I-75. Sarasota Memorial Hospital-North Port will be the health system’s third acute-care hospital and fulfills a longstanding request from the City of North Port for a hospital of its own. With more than 95,000 residents, North Port is the largest city in Sarasota County, both in land mass and population, and one of the fastest growing in the nation.
more»NORTH PORT – The historic value of three iconic structures at Warm Mineral Springs will be preserved and someday surrounded by parkland, after the North Port City commission adopted a preservation plan for the structures and took the first step toward a conservation restriction for Warm Mineral Springs Park.
The five-member board’s unanimous vote to follow staff recommendations came roughly seven months after Warm Mineral Springs Development Group pulled the plug on a development deal that called restoration of the three historical buildings on the 21.6-acre springs activity center, but also a hotel and residences on the surrounding 61.4-acres of parkland.

more»NORTH, Fla. (WWSB) - Celebrating its tradition of fostering a thriving business community, the City of North Port once again played host to the successful Business Welcome in the first quarter of 2024, for new businesses who joined the City in January, February and March 2024.
The City proudly celebrated the addition of 70 new businesses during this quarter at Saturday’s event at City Hall.
The newly inducted members of North Port’s flourishing entrepreneurial scene were all publicly acknowledged, each receiving signed certificates, taking part in a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony and meeting community partners committed to their growth and success.
more»Entrepreneurs are increasingly choosing North Port for their operations, and a group of more than 100 converged recently in the city at the first-of-its-kind business networking event.
Nearly 160 businesses have opened their doors in the city so far in fiscal year 2024, North Port Economic Development Manager Vinnie Mascarenhas tells the Business Observer. Since the municipality’s fiscal year began in October, a steady stream of businesses has been added to the its roster, primarily in the service industry.
“People are moving here,” Mascarenhas says. “Our quality of life has a lot to do with it. It’s a safe city. It’s well located with Interstate 75. We are proximate to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world…[and] schools are outstanding. When businesses and people are looking at southwest Florida, they take a really hard look at North Port.”
